Rugs come in many fibres and constructions, and not all of them are safe to clean with hot water extraction. This page explains which rugs I clean, which rugs I don’t, and why certain rugs require specialist textile restoration instead of on‑site cleaning.

Why These Rugs Are Unsafe

Some rugs contain delicate fibres, unstable dyes or construction methods that make on‑site cleaning unsafe. Cleaning these rugs with hot water extraction can cause browning, fibre collapse, distortion, dye bleed or permanent damage.

Why Silk, Viscose & Rayon Cannot Be Cleaned With HWE

Silk, viscose, rayon and bamboo silk behave like paper when exposed to moisture, heat or agitation. Hot water extraction will collapse fibres, distort appearance, cause browning, cause dye bleed and weaken the rug structure. These rugs require specialist immersion cleaning.

Dye transfer is permanent.

When colour migrates into another part of the rug, cleaning cannot remove it. Attempts to fix it can make it worse.

I specialise in modern synthetic rugs and 100% wool rugs only. I do not clean Persian, hand‑woven, silk, viscose, rayon, bamboo silk, shaggy rugs or any rug with unstable dyes or fibre blends.

What I Do and Don’t Clean

If a rug is missing its care tag on the backing, I do not clean it — even if it looks synthetic. Many rugs are fibre blends, and blends can bleed, shrink or distort.
